AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You work in teams on technically-scientific and social questions of neurorehabilitation. The focus is on the development and testing of human-centered solutions with exoskeletons, brain–machine interfaces (EEG, EMG) and virtual reality, as well as the involvement of affected persons and relevant stakeholders. In the end you can develop prototypes, process neural signals and reflect on social and ethical aspects.

What you will be able to do

  • understand and develop robotic neurorehabilitation methods with exoskeletons and VR
  • record and process neural signals (EEG, EMG)
  • apply and further develop machine learning algorithms to neural data
  • integrate sensory feedback
  • organize and lead technical projects
  • work effectively in small groups and communicate progress
  • participate token people in research and development processes
  • apply methods of human-centered design
  • reflect on neurotechnologies from social and ethical perspectives

What the module consists of

  • Einführungsvorlesungengive an overview of neurorehabilitation, exoskeletons, human-centered engineering, responsible neuroengineering and VR; introduction of technical methods (EEG, EMG, exoskeletons, VR)
  • Projektfindungsphasedevelopment of project plans based on presentations, literature and incorporating the perspective of stroke patients; kickoff presentation
  • Iterative Entwicklungsphaseimplementation of algorithms and hardware systems as well as accompanying test and validation work with objective metrics and involvement of affected persons
  • Reflexionsphasepresentation of results and preparation of a report with technical, scientific as well as social and ethical reflection
  • Regelmäßige Kolloquiaexchange and supervision by lecturers during the project progression

Teaching method

  • Einführungsvorlesungenconveying foundational knowledge and overview of relevant topics
  • Gruppenarbeit zu Human‑Centered und Responsible Neuroengineeringpromotes participatory and value-oriented development as well as teamwork
  • Unabhängige Projektarbeit im Laborpractice-oriented development and implementation of systems
  • Regelmäßige Kolloquia mit den Dozentencontinuous supervision, feedback and professional exchange
