What it is about

In a group project you build an autonomous, walking Robo-Dodo and integrate existing HW/SW components into prototypes. The course focuses on mechanical principles of legged robotics, elastic elements and actuation with brushless direct current motors; at the end you can present a functional prototype and explain the underlying design and control principles.

What you will be able to do

  • Fundamentals of developing walking robots
  • Understanding mechanical principles and elastic elements for locomotion
  • Practical experience in integrating HW/SW into functional prototypes
  • Actuation and control of brushless DC motors
  • Teamwork and problem-solving oriented work
  • Methodical abilities for iterative development and testing

What the module consists of

  • Laborprojektphysical realization of the Robo-Dodo in groups, integration and prototyping
  • Einführende LehrveranstaltungenProvision of background knowledge on mechanics, actuation and design
  • Unabhängige studentische ArbeitAutonomous development, prototyping and testing

Teaching method

  • Einführende KlassenConveying the theoretical foundations before laboratory work
  • Unabhängige studentische ArbeitIndependent development and testing of solutions
  • Teamarbeit (supervised und unsupervised im Labor)Cooperative development, coordination and realization of the prototype
  • Schnelles PrototypingEnables exploratory testing of different mechanical solutions
