What it is about

You will learn how innovations arise, how they change societies, and how politics can respond and steer them. In the end, you will be able to apply central concepts from Science and Technology Studies (STS) and innovation policy, analyze case studies, and present normative positions on questions of innovation governance.

What you will be able to do

  • Apply central concepts and theories from STS and innovation policy
  • Understand and compare models of innovation (e.g. linear, systems, triple-helix)
  • Systematically analyze interactions between innovation, society, and public policy
  • Classify relevant case studies from biotechnology, IT, manufacturing, and national innovation strategies
  • Develop and articulate normative and critical stances on innovation issues
  • Acquire basic knowledge about current research topics and methods in STS and Public Policy
