What it is about

You work in a team on the design, prototype and implementation of a game, test it playfully and evaluate ethical aspects. In the end you will be able to combine game development techniques from graphics, physics and software engineering, assess suitable technologies and analyze the ethical implications of your design.

What you will be able to do

  • Apply techniques and models from real-time graphics, game physics and software engineering in a team
  • Use game-design and game-testing methods beyond general software engineering principles
  • Analyze and apply technological building blocks (e.g. game engines, physics software, client-server architectures, HCI hardware) for game development
  • Use game-related algorithms and models from specializations (e.g. VR/AR, game theory, visual computing, computer graphics) for your own project
  • Analyze and evaluate ethical aspects of game design and game mechanics

What the module consists of

  • Projektarbeit (Gruppenarbeit)Implementation of design, prototype and game implementation; main component of assessment
  • PräsentationenInterim and final presentations to showcase design, prototype and playtesting results
  • Beratungssitzungen (mandatory meetings)6 mandatory meetings with instructors for organization, ethics, prototype and implementation discussion as well as demo-day

Teaching method

  • Teamarbeit in Gruppen (3–4 Studierende)practical collaboration on design, prototyping, implementation and testing
  • Verpflichtende Treffen mit Dozierenden (6×2 Stunden)course organization, ethical introduction, feedback on design, prototypes, implementation status and playtesting
  • Regelmäßige Teammeetings und eigenständiges Studiumplanning, task coordination, familiarization with technologies and supplementary module content
