What it is about

In this module you will study how physical activity affects the body and brain, from sensory perception through motor control to rehabilitation and technology-assisted support. By the end you will critically assess the relationships between movement, health and technology and place applications for prevention and rehabilitation in context.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand how the human body perceives physical activity (including perceived exertion)
  • Critically reflect on how brain health, alongside cardiovascular fitness, is evaluated as a result of PA
  • Grasp the role of motor control as the basis of physical activity and mediator for health, with a focus on posture/postural control
  • Understand how accidents (e.g., falls) are consequences and risks of insufficient PA
  • Understand the role of technology in promoting PA and prevention, especially in rehabilitation
  • Critically reflect on the complex role of activities of daily living for PA and independent living
  • Critically contextualize extreme physical activity and fitness as well as the role of nutrition and an evolutionary perspective

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of content on biophysics, neuroplasticity, coordination, rehabilitation, augmentation, workplace interventions, among others
  • LiteraturseminarDeepening and discussion of current research literature on the module topics

Teaching method
