What it is about

You learn methods for describing and numerically treating time-varying systems as well as efficient algorithms for large-scale and structured problems in numerical linear algebra. In the end you can develop suitable Matlab programs that implement these algorithms for engineering applications and assess their efficiency.

What you will be able to do

  • Implement efficient algorithms for large-scale and structured problems
  • Analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of numerical algorithms
  • Formulate engineering problems as time-varying linear systems
  • Read and present literature on efficient computations clearly
  • Explain results orally and in writing

What the module consists of

  • LectureTransmission of theory on the board, including discussions on reading tasks
  • Exercises / Project SupportAssistance with programming tasks, notes on implementation and additional presentations
  • Student PresentationsIntroduction and discussion of selected literature and results
  • Team Projects / Programming TasksWork on about 5 project-based tasks in small teams

Teaching method

  • Frontal lecture at the boardIntroduction and discussion of theoretical content
  • Inverted-classroom with reading assignmentsIndependent preparation of current or classic papers for deeper understanding
  • Team-oriented programming tasksPractical implementation and application of the methods in Matlab
  • Presentations and postersPromotion of oral communication and transfer of understanding
