What it is about

In this module you will learn fundamental concepts and techniques of molecular biotechnology, e.g. recombinant protein production, antibody technology, bioreactors and biotechnological production processes in different organisms. At the end you will be able to distinguish areas of biotechnology, describe production processes and bioreactors, and analyze concrete biotechnological questions and develop solution proposals.

What you will be able to do

• Distinguish between different areas of biotechnology (e.g. green, red, white, brown)
• Describe theoretical and technological foundations of recombinant protein production
• Understand antibody structure, diversity and manufacturing processes (including monoclonal antibodies and antibody fragments)
• Present and distinguish different bioreactors (e.g. stirred-tank reactor, photobioreactor)
• Outline biotechnological production sequences for different organisms
• Apply biotechnological concepts to problem solving and process optimization (e.g. refolding of insoluble expressed proteins)
