AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn the fundamental principles of information transmission, storage and processing. After the module you can describe the structure and operation of communication systems, networks and data-processing devices, classify their physical and mathematical foundations, and justify typical design decisions.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe principles of information transmission systems and networks
  • Explain the structure and operation of data-processing devices
  • Differentiate fundamental physical and mathematical foundations
  • Apply engineering perspective (abstraction, system building blocks, layers)
  • Apply selected mathematical methods to example tasks

What the module consists of

  • LecturesConveying the theoretical foundations and technical implementations; motivation through practical examples and reflection at the end of each unit
  • TutorialsReview and practice of mathematical concepts as well as working on conceptual tasks in a student-centered format
  • Self-studyPreparatory reading, review of lecture content and individual practice of tasks

Teaching method

  • LectureNew concepts are introduced and discussed interactively
  • Tutorials with problem sheetsTargeted practice and application of mathematical methods
  • Reading assignments and supporting documentsIntroduction to new topics and deepening through independent reading
