What it is about

You learn the basics of digital and robot-assisted manufacturing in architecture and construction. By the end you will be able to apply parametric and algorithmic design and manufacturing principles, understand basic data structures for architectural geometry and manufacturing processes, and work with Rhino, Grasshopper, Python and COMPAS/COMPAS_FAB.

What you will be able to do

• Understand the scope and relevance of computer-aided methods for architecture and construction
• Understand fundamental data structures of computer-aided modeling of architectural geometry
• Capture the theoretical background of fundamental data structures for digital manufacturing
• Apply basic principles of algorithmic and parametric design methods
• Implement common versions of algorithms for architectural geometry and robot fabrication
• Apply common CAD tools as interfaces to self-implemented solutions
• Scientifically assess literature on digital fabrication in architecture
• Include context-dependent notions of sustainability
• Reflect on learned methods with regard to sustainable ecological, social and economic development
