What it is about
You will learn nondestructive testing methods and how to apply them: theory, practical experiments and evaluation. In the end you will be able to explain the physical fundamentals and material requirements of various testing methods, analyze test tasks and select appropriate methods as well as evaluate measurement results.
What you will be able to do
- Define important terms and tasks of nondestructive testing
- Understand the physical fundamentals of elastic and electromagnetic testing methods
- Describe the operation of relevant testing equipment
- Name relevant material properties for each method
- Apply testing methods to different materials and geometries
- Analyze complex testing situations and select a suitable method
- Evaluate experimental results and assess possibilities/limits
What the module consists of
- EinführungsveranstaltungAn overview of the chair, procedures, scientific practice and laboratory safety
- VorlesungenTheoretical foundations of the testing methods and physical interactions
- ÜbungenWorking on theoretical questions and calculation tasks in small groups for deepening
- LaborversuchePractical measurements, data collection, evaluation and discussion in small groups
Teaching method
- EinführungsveranstaltungConveying an overview of scientific practice and safety briefing
- VorlesungenTheory of methods and physical fundamentals
- ÜbungenWritten tasks in small groups for discussion and deepening
- LaborversucheIndependent data collection and analysis under supervision; documentation in lab reports
