What it is about

You will learn population-based procedures for numerical structural optimization and how to apply them. The emphasis is on genetic and evolutionary strategies, multi-criteria optimization as well as biologically inspired methods such as Particle Swarm and Ant Colony. You will also cover Sensitivity Analysis, Design of Experiments, Response Surface Methods and Robust Design Optimisation with applications from nonlinear structural mechanics (e.g. crash). In the end you will be able to evaluate the procedures, implement them and apply them practically to engineering tasks.
