AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

In the module you will learn to model traffic flows on highways and in cities and to plan and evaluate traffic control and management measures based on these models. In the end you will be able to apply traffic flow models and control procedures as well as assess the quality and effects of dynamic traffic information.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand basic concepts and theory of traffic flow
  • Assess the quality of traffic flow on motorways and in cities
  • Know and distinguish relevant modeling approaches
  • Apply macroscopic and microscopic traffic flow models
  • Apply queueing and origin-destination estimation models
  • Understand basic concepts of traffic management in urban and motorway environments
  • Apply routing algorithms and navigation systems
  • Apply quality assessment of dynamic traffic information
  • Plan and evaluate traffic signals and their coordination
  • Understand the role of ITS for public transport
  • Know the basics of park management and toll systems

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of the theoretical foundations on traffic flow, models and traffic control
  • ÜbungGuidance on applying the learned procedures and solving computational tasks
  • ExkursionPractice-oriented insights into thematically appropriate facilities and systems

Teaching method

  • Vorlesung mit PräsentationenDelivery of theory and central concepts
  • Begleitende Übungen (Einzel- und Gruppenarbeit)Practice and application of the methods through computational tasks and supervised calculations
  • ExkursionenIllustration of real systems and applications
