You will become familiar with industrial synthesis processes for inorganic and organic basic chemicals as well as intermediates, with a particular focus on the role of catalysts (heterogeneous and homogeneous) and operating conditions. Topics include biomass conversion, production of ammonia, sulfuric and nitric acid, processes for the production of light olefins and aromatics, as well as selective oxidation, selective hydrogenation, chiral synthesis and examples such as acryl-, maleic- and phthalic acid. More recent developments such as metallocene catalysts for olefin polymerisation are also presented.
