What it is about

You will learn the fundamentals and applications of additive manufacturing with metals (Metal Additive Manufacturing, MAM). The course explains materials, process flows, design and topology optimization as well as post-processing and quality inspection, so you can assess when MAM substitutes or complements conventional processes and how sustainable business models can look.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the fundamentals of the most important metal AM processes, process flows and post-processing
  • Understand the importance of materials engineering and material characterization
  • Apply topology optimization and design guidelines
  • Assess the suitability of additive manufacturing compared with conventional manufacturing
  • Assess sustainability potential and develop ecological manufacturing and business models

What the module consists of

  • Online lecturesConveying the individual topic blocks with presentations, videos and multimedia
  • Post-processing meetings / tutorials (via Zoom)Review of core content and execution of simulation tutorials
  • Exercises / case studies (optional)Practical deepening and presentation of industrial use cases

Teaching method

  • Recorded or live online lecturesExplanation of theoretical fundamentals and presentation of opportunities and challenges
  • Zoom post-processing meetings / tutorialsDeepening, repetition and execution of practical simulations
  • Multimedia content (videos, slides, case studies)Illustration of processes and real-world application examples
