What it is about
The module provides interdisciplinary fundamentals and applications of boundary layer and nanofluid processing technology at the interface of chemistry, physics, biology, materials science and process engineering. You will learn to analyze properties and interactions of colloidal and biological systems as well as relevant processes and methods and to evaluate industrial questions.

- Describe essential concepts of boundary layer processing technology
- Differentiate and compare colloidal systems, biological suspensions and solid phases
- Identify types of molecular interactions at solid–biomaterial interfaces
- Assess the role of physico-chemical quantities
- Select suitable methods for determining central material properties
- Apply knowledge for analyzing industrially relevant processes
- Recognize challenges of existing processes
- Develop optimization potentials regarding biomass utilization, energy/resource efficiency and circular economy
- Develop requirements for sustainable, productivity-enhancing process solutions
- Communicate intra- and interdisciplinarily, justify and defend decisions
