AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will get an introduction to biosensors and bioelectronics: from biological recognition elements and physical transduction mechanisms to concrete sensor architectures (enzymatic, DNA-, immun-, and cell-based sensors) as well as point-of-care and in-vivo applications. By the end you will be able to describe common biosensor concepts, understand electrochemical measurement principles, and analyze bioelectronic experiments including stochastic or single-molecule methods.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe elements of biological analyte recognition
  • Describe main classes of point-of-care biosensors
  • Understand principles of current electrochemical biosensors
  • Perform bioelectronic measurements with reference to chip-based neuroscience
  • Analyze experiments for stochastic detection
  • Evaluate cell-chip coupling experiments

What the module consists of

  • Vorlesung (Blockvorlesungen, 2 SWS)introduces concepts of biosensing and cell-based bioelectronics
  • Praktikum (Blockpraktikum, 4 SWS)conducting and analyzing laboratory work on current bioelectronic experiments

Teaching method

  • Blockvorlesungen mit PowerPoint und Diskussionconvey fundamental concepts and address questions in plenary
  • Blockpraktikum mit Laboraufbau, Datenakquise und -auswertungpractice in application, experimentation, and data analysis
  • regular discussions with tutorto discuss progress and next steps of the experiments and to assess experimental competences
