AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You learn how ROS (Robot Operating System) functions as middleware in modern autonomous systems and how to structure and develop complex robotics software with it. In the end you will be able to analyze ROS systems, implement your own nodes in C++, use simulation environments and design ROS-based software architectures.

What you will be able to do

  • ROS architecture understanding (Master, Nodes, Topics, Messages, Services, Parameters, Actions)
  • Create and structure ROS packages (Launch files, Best Practices)
  • Develop your own ROS programs in C++
  • Set up simulations with Gazebo and Unity
  • Use visualization tools such as RViz
  • Multibody simulation and basics of real-time capability in ROS 2
  • Apply modern development tools (GIT, Docker) in the ROS context

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of fundamentals through lecture; active participation is expected
  • Praktikum/ÜbungenAccompanying practical exercises and projects for autonomous application under guidance

Teaching method

  • VortragFor introduction and explanation of the concepts
  • Praktische Einzel- oder GruppenarbeitApplication of the content in exercises and practical tasks
  • EigenstudiumPreparation and follow-up of the course as well as completion of the exercises
