AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

In this module you will learn numerical methods for solving acoustic problems, in particular the Finite Element Method (FEM) and the Boundary Element Method (BEM). In the end you will be able to explain the fundamental methodology, assess typical problems in outdoor space and fluid-structure interactions, and implement a simple FEM- or BEM-program in MATLAB.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand formulations of FEM and BEM and outline the main solution steps
  • Explain the basics of meshing and discretization
  • Describe and analyze specific problems of FEM and BEM in acoustics
  • Name a basic structure of an FEM program and develop one in MATLAB

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungConveying the numerical foundations and presentation of practical acoustic problem scenarios
  • Übung / RechnerübungStep-by-step development of your own FEM program in MATLAB; exercises and homework for progress control

Teaching method

  • Vortrag / Tafelanschrieb / Tablet-BeamerFor systematic explanation of derivations and presentation of example problems
  • Demonstration with commercial softwareTo illustrate intermediate steps and results
  • Rechnerübung in MATLABFor practical learning of implementation and evaluation of numerical solutions
