What it is about
You will learn concepts and technologies of electronic structure theory, starting with potential energy surfaces up to methods such as Hartree–Fock, correlated wave functions and density functional theory. In the end you will be able to qualitatively explain the methods, assess their applications and limitations, and solve simple electronic structure problems independently.
What you will be able to do
- List fundamental electronic structure methods
- Qualitatively describe the concepts of the key methods
- Know application areas and contributions to chemistry
- Classify applicability and limitations of the techniques
- Apply learned methods to solve simple problems
What the module consists of
- VorlesungDelivery of the thematic block through a frontal lecture
- ÜbungDeepening through practical tasks, self-study and collaborative problem solving
Teaching method
- Frontalvortragfor introduction and conveyance of conceptual knowledge
- Angeleitetes Selbststudiumfor deepening the lecture material
- Praktische Übungsaufgabento practice skills, assess competence yourself and receive direct feedback
