AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You engage with various tradeoff relations in quantum mechanics and their applications in statistics, metrology and information theory. Starting with a short mathematical overview of density operators, POVMs, completely positive maps and instruments, you will learn to analyze and apply uncertainty relations, information-/disturbance as well as energy-/temperature tradeoffs and tradeoffs between speed, precision and sample size.

What you will be able to do

  • Mathematical analysis of quantum trade-off relations
  • Understanding of central operational concepts and assumptions
  • Applying definitions and main tools to concrete examples
  • Independent assessment of possibilities and limitations of the tradeoffs

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungPresentation of content, demonstrative examples and discussions for deepening understanding
  • Übung/Practice‑SessionsWorking on exercise sheets with solutions for self-check and deepening understanding

Teaching method

  • Vortrag mit Diskussionpresents the content, shows examples and prompts for independent analysis
  • Übungsblätter mit Lösungenenable independent practice and monitoring of learning progress
