What it is about

You learn the fundamentals of modern symmetric and asymmetric cryptography as well as common attack and cryptanalysis techniques. In the end you will be able to assess secure parameters and implementations, develop cryptographic solutions yourself, and implement practical attacks against intentionally insecure systems.

What you will be able to do

  • Understanding of symmetric cryptosystems and examples
  • Understanding of asymmetric cryptosystems and examples
  • Knowledge of cryptanalytic techniques for both areas
  • Recognizing and exploiting insecure implementations of protocols
  • Practical implementation and evaluation of cryptographic solutions

What the module consists of

  • Lectureintroduces concepts and attack approaches
  • Exercisepractical implementation and application of attacks on insecure crypto system instances

Teaching method

  • LectureConveying the theoretical foundations and attack ideas
  • Exercise/Practicumpractical experience through implementation of attacks and application to specially designed insecure examples
