AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You learn the fundamentals of geometric modeling, algorithmic design and their application to 3D form generation, simulation, structural design and digital fabrication. In the end you will be able to develop simple algorithm-based design solutions, couple with common CAD tools, and apply knowledge on form-finding, geometry processing as well as fabrication-aware design.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand and apply parametric and algorithmic design
  • Develop simple versions of fundamental algorithms of architectural geometry, structure planning and digital fabrication
  • Use common CAD tools as an interface to self-implemented solutions
  • Assess the significance and application areas of computational methods in research and practice
  • Critically appraise scientific literature
  • Integrate sustainability aspects (ecological, social, economic) into design processes

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungTheoretical foundations of computational design
  • Tutorials/ÜbungenPractical programming tasks to apply the lecture content and reinforce the methods
  • Tool-DemonstrationenIntroduction and demonstration of a toolchain using real-world examples for application in tasks

Teaching method

  • FrontalvorlesungenConstruction of theoretical foundations and concepts
  • Hands-on Tutorials mit ProgrammierübungenPractice of practical implementation and deepening of algorithmic skills
  • Demonstration von Software-ToolchainsEnables application of theory in real workflows and supports task handling
