AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

In this module you will learn modern principles of channel coding. You will understand mathematical foundations (e.g., finite fields) and various code classes (linear block codes, Reed–Solomon, BCH, convolutional codes, Reed–Muller, concatenated codes) as well as decoding algorithms, so that you can select, adapt and assess the error-correcting capability of coding schemes.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand the goal and principles of channel coding
  • Characterize different code classes
  • Apply finite field mathematics to linear codes
  • Select and parameterize suitable coding schemes
  • Derive decoding algorithms
  • Understand bounds on code sizes
  • Assess the error-correcting capability of given coding schemes
  • Derive new coding schemes from literature search

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of theoretical content with slides and board; examples and discussion
  • TutorialApplication of lecture content using examples

Teaching method

  • Vorlesung (Präsentation + Tafelanschrieb)To convey the theoretical content and illustrate it with examples
  • Diskussion und ZwischenfragenFor active participation and deepening understanding
