Applications of Mathematical Biology

MA3602Elective Modules9 ECTSEnglishsummer semesterDepartment Mathematics
AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn fundamental mathematical methods of biology, including nonlinear dynamics, bifurcation and singular perturbation theory, as well as fundamental stochastic processes. These methods will be applied to important models from ecology, biochemistry, regulatory pathways, neuroscience and population genetics, so that you can understand research articles and adapt standard models to problems in the end.

What you will be able to do

  • Read and understand scholarly literature from biomathematical journals
  • Conduct basic literature research in relevant databases
  • Know standard models in different biological areas
  • Adapt models to concrete problems and analyze them

What the module consists of

  • LectureConveying the content through lectures, demonstration examples and discussion
  • Übung/Practice sessionsDeepening the content through problem sheets with solutions and self-check

Teaching method

  • Lecture with discussionpresents content, shows examples and encourages independent analysis
  • Problem sheets with solutionsallow deeper study, practice and independent verification of learning progress
