What it is about

You will learn methods for mesh-free approximation and interpolation of multivariate, scattered data, in particular Radial Basis Functions (RBF) and Moving Least Squares (MLS). In the end you can apply the fundamental principles, analyze them and implement the algorithms in Matlab.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand multivariate scattered data approximation
  • Apply Radial Basis Functions
  • Use Moving Least Squares methods
  • Knowledge of direct and iterative algorithms
  • Implementation and use of the algorithms in Matlab

What the module consists of

  • LecturesConveying theoretical foundations and examples
  • TutorialDiscussion and deepening of lecture problems; optionally additional tutorial hours with supervised teamwork

Teaching method

  • LecturesPresentation of theoretical principles and example applications
  • Exercise sessionsDevelopment and deepening of the contents through discussed tasks; optional supervised teamwork
