What it is about

You will learn particle-based simulation methods for flow problems – from atomistic methods through kinetic models to macroscopic particle solvers. In the end you will understand the fundamentals of the respective models, their algorithms, and know when which method is applicable.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand the fundamentals of particle-based simulation methods
  • Master important discrete algorithms at micro-/meso-/macro-levels
  • Evaluate suitability and applicability of the methods
  • Recognize the concrete application of a suitable particle method for a flow problem

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of theoretical foundations and demonstration of code examples
  • Übungen / Praktika (3 Termine)Testing and modifying teaching codes for MD, LBM and SPH; deepening tasks possible

Teaching method

  • Präsentationen / FrontalunterrichtExplanation of the theoretical basis
  • Tablet-PCs zur Herleitung und IllustrationVisualization of complex concepts
  • Programmierbeispiele und Codes zum MitprogrammierenFostering practical understanding of classical particle methods
  • Praktische Übungen mit LehrcodesApplying, testing and modifying typical implementations
