AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn to formulate, analyze and simulate mathematical models for cellular systems. The focus is on reaction kinetics, thermodynamics and stoichiometric networks; in the end you will be able to create balance equations for complex cellular networks, predict their behavior by means of simulations, and evaluate biotechnological processes with regard to temporal behavior and product yield.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand biological and theoretical foundations of cellular systems
  • Formulate balance equations for concentrated and distributed systems
  • Analyze stoichiometric networks
  • Apply reaction kinetics (enzymes, polymerization, signal transduction)
  • Consider thermodynamic aspects of cellular processes
  • Model and simulate stochastic systems
  • Predict and evaluate network behavior by simulation

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungTransmission of mathematical derivations and relationships; introduction to theory and methods
  • ÜbungDeepening of lecture content; working on problems, partly on computer for modeling and simulation

Teaching method

  • Tafel- und Präsentationsvortrag (PowerPoint)for the presentation of mathematical derivations and relationships
  • Übungen mit Besprechung der Lösungsstrategiento deepen and practically apply the modeling and analysis methods
  • Computereinsatz in Übungenfor more complex tasks such as mathematical modeling and simulation
