AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn methods for deriving and analyzing motion equations of mechanical systems—from rigid multibody systems to one-dimensional continua. In the end you will be able to formulate models, linearize, analyze stability and vibration modes, and discretize and evaluate continuous systems with Rayleigh– Ritz and the Finite Element Method.

What you will be able to do

  • Abstract mechanical systems and translate them into models
  • Analyze kinematic and kinetic relationships
  • Apply Lagrangian and Newton–Euler formalisms
  • Derive motion equations for rigid and linearly flexible systems
  • Explain basic concepts of technical dynamics
  • Apply discretization methods to continuous systems
  • Assess linear motion equations for stability and modal analysis
  • Explain phenomena in rotating systems and transfer behavior
  • Qualitatively assess nonlinear systems with linearized stability

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDerivation and analysis of the formalisms, presentation of examples, visualizations; script and slides for preparation
  • Integrierte ÜbungenApplication of methods, analysis and evaluation of case studies, Matlab examples for implementation

Teaching method

  • Tablet‑PC PräsentationKey connections and formalisms are derived and analyzed live
  • Beispiele, Lehrmodelle und AnimationenIllustrate and visualize practically relevant problems
  • Skript und VorlesungsfolienMaterial for pre- and post-reading
  • Übungen mit Matlab‑BeispielenApply methods in practice and show implementation approaches
