AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

In this module you will learn fundamental concepts and methods of optimization, model analysis and numerical solution techniques. In the end you will be able to translate technical questions into mathematical optimization tasks and select appropriate solution approaches as well as assess the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures.

What you will be able to do

  • Formulate optimization problems from technical processes mathematically
  • Apply extremum calculation for functions of several variables
  • perform linear optimization and linear regression
  • use dynamic optimization for process engineering processes
  • understand mixed-integer problems
  • get to know gradient-based and derivative-free solution methods
  • classify genetic algorithms and their application areas

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungConveying the theoretical foundations using board work and presentations
  • ÜbungenDeepening of essential content, processing and discussion of exercise problems

Teaching method

  • Tafelanschrieb und PowerPoint-Präsentationentheoretical dissemination of the contents
  • Übungsaufgaben mit Musterlösungenrepetition and deepening as well as self-check through pre-solved and discussed tasks
