What it is about
You deal with phase transitions, critical phenomena and their theoretical descriptions (Landau-Ginzburg, renormalization group). You also learn the basics of irreversible and non-equilibrium processes as well as percolation theory. In the end you will be able to interpret critical exponents and apply renormalization group methods to concrete models.
What you will be able to do
- Explain concepts of critical phenomena
- Analyze critical exponents
- Understand renormalization group approach
- Analyze systems with RG methods
- Explain Ginzburg-Landau theory
- Apply RG to Ginzburg-Landau
- Explain and compare approaches of non-equilibrium physics
- Understand basics of percolation and non-equilibrium universality
What the module consists of
- VorlesungPresentation and discussion of theoretical content; presentation of relevant experimental results; jointly developing theoretical models
- ÜbungApplication of methods to exercise problems, discussion of solutions and deepening of aspects of the lecture; feedback on proposed solutions
Teaching method
- thematisch strukturierte VorlesungConveying and discussion of theoretical concepts as well as presentation of experimental results
