Biologische Chemie

What it is about

You will deeply understand the chemical processes on and with biomolecules. The focus is on protein chemistry, modifications of biomolecules, molecular interactions, biopolymers and membranes. In the end you can explain reaction mechanisms, describe application examples of chemical modifications and qualitatively classify and present research results.

What you will be able to do

• Understand natural and artificial chemical modifications of biomolecules
• Describe current analytical and synthesis procedures (e.g. incorporation of non-natural amino acids, click chemistry)
• Repeat and explain chemical reaction mechanisms
• Apply theoretical knowledge to concrete problems
• Classify, qualitatively interpret and evaluate current research results
• Present and professionally discuss research data
• Create and present a scientific poster (in English)

What the module consists of

• Vorlesung (2 SWS)Conveying the theoretical foundations and stepwise development of the module contents
• Übungen (2 SWS)Practical deepening: creation and presentation of a scientific poster; discussion of data interpretation and research questions
