Applied Microbiology and Metabolic Engineering

What it is about

You learn the fundamentals and techniques of applied microbiology and metabolic engineering. In the end you will be able to understand microbial metabolism, describe fermentation processes quantitatively, and develop strategies for targeted modification of microorganisms for the production of chemicals and biofuels.

• Know the principles and methods of applied microbiology and metabolic engineering
• Describe and quantitatively analyze microbial fermentation processes
• Develop strategies for manipulating cellular metabolism for selected product classes
• Laboratory practical skills: cultivation of production strains and optimization of process parameters
• Analyze biomass, substrate and product concentrations and create carbon balances
