What it is about

You will receive an introduction to the physics and technical implementation of modern magnetic measurement methods. After reviewing the fundamentals of magnetism, you will become familiar with various measurement methods, their physical principles and typical laboratory setups. In the end you will be able to select suitable measurement setups, assess the resolution limits, and explain interactions between sample and sensor.

What you will be able to do

• Understand different designs of magnetic systems and explain their effect on solid-state systems
• Explain the physical aspects and interactions between the measured object and the sensor in magnetization measurement methods
• Reproduce and explain the technical implementation of various magnetic measurement methods
• Assess the spatial and temporal resolution of measurement methods
• Choose and sketch experimental setups suitable for questions in magnetism
• Name length and time scales of magnetic phenomena
