What it is about
In this module you will learn the foundations of modern optics, laser physics and ultrafast pulse technology and their applications. By the end you will be able to describe propagation and properties of laser beams, analyze optical systems and resonators, understand methods of Fourier optics and nonlinear optics as well as the generation and propagation of ultrashort pulses.
What you will be able to do
- Describe properties and propagation of laser beams
- Apply matrix optics to simple linear optical systems
- Understand optical resonators
- Apply Fourier optics to imaging problems and in modern microscopy
- Understand methods of nonlinear optics and laser physics and apply them to generation, amplification and characterization of ultrashort pulses
- Understand and describe propagation of ultrashort light pulses in optical fibers
- Know fundamentals of lasers and important laser media
- Know methods for generating short and intense light pulses
