AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You learn how computers are internally constructed and how their components work together. In the end you can name the most important building blocks of microprocessors and computers and analyze their interaction as well as classify and use different levels of parallelism in hardware and software.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand the structure and functioning of computer components
  • Name important microprocessor components (pipeline, functional/vector units, caches, memory controller)
  • Analyze interaction between processor, memory and interconnect
  • Characterize levels of parallelism (ILP, vector/data parallelism, shared memory, distributed memory)
  • Consider parallel utilization of hardware in code

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungConveying the basics and concepts through lectures and presentations
  • ÜbungSolving concrete tasks, discussion of examples, partially teamwork

Teaching method

  • Vorträge/Präsentationenfor structured conveyance of lecture content
  • Selbststudium ausgewählter Literaturto work through topics in depth
  • Übungsaufgaben und Teamarbeitto apply and deepen knowledge practically
