What it is about
You learn how experiments at future hadron colliders are planned and technically implemented to investigate open questions beyond the Standard Model. In the end you understand the fundamentals of the Standard Model, the challenges of future accelerators (e.g., HL-LHC, FCC), as well as the relevant detector technologies and analysis principles.
What you will be able to do
- Foundations of quantum field theory
- Standard Model of the strong and electroweak interaction as a gauge theory
- Limits and possible extensions of the Standard Model
- Operation of hadron colliders
- Detector technologies for hadron collider experiments
What the module consists of
- LectureConveying the principles of detector construction and methods of statistical data analysis; illustrated with ongoing and planned experiments
Teaching method
- Lecture with board and projectorExplanation of fundamental principles and illustration with examples
- Lecture notesSupports the review of the content
