Absolute Power on Demand? The Court of Justice of the European Union as a Political Actor

What it is about

The module discusses the role of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) within the political and legal architecture of the EU. You will learn the development of the EU as a supranational legal order, key CJEU decisions, and conflict lines between the CJEU, EU institutions, and national courts, and you will be able to analyze and assess such power conflicts at the end.

• Situate European constitutional architecture
• Assess the relationship between the CJEU and national courts
• Identify conflict lines between European law and national law
• Methodically analyze court decisions
• Present results in written and oral form
