What it is about

You will learn fundamental programming concepts and tools in MATLAB and C/C++ as well as central algorithms and data structures. In the end you will be able to solve typical programming tasks, apply common C++11 data structures and control constructs, and consider fundamental correctness aspects.

What you will be able to do

  • Master basic program elements (variables, pointers, objects, control structures)
  • Write simple programs in C/C++ and MATLAB
  • Understand recursion, event-driven and functional programming
  • Know important data structures (arrays, trees, maps, hash tables, priority queues, sets)
  • Apply core algorithms and algorithmic patterns (e.g., dynamic programming, shortest paths, Divide & Conquer)
  • Use modern C++11 constructs (smart pointers, Locks, Semaphores, Latches, Barriers etc.)
  • Understand fundamentals of correctness and dealing with numerical issues
  • Get an overview of special computing environments (Embedded, GPU, FPGA, Supercomputers) and their impact on programming

What the module consists of

  • Lectureintroduces concepts, data structures, algorithms and special computing environments
  • Exercises/Tutorialspractical deepening through programming exercises and algorithmic tasks

Teaching method

  • Lecture/Presentationconveying the theoretical foundations
  • Exercisesapplication and practice of programming techniques and algorithms
