AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You deepen fundamentals of fluid mechanics with a focus on vorticity, potential flows, and boundary layers. In the end you will be able to describe vortex and irrotational flows and model them with elementary vortices or potential flows, as well as analyze and approximately solve boundary layer problems.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe and analyze vortex flows
  • Model simple flows with elementary vortices
  • Describe and analyze irrotational (potential) flows
  • Model two-dimensional potential flows with elementary potentials
  • Understand theory of boundary layer flows
  • Solve boundary layer equations exactly and approximately
  • Phenomenologically describe separation flows
  • Phenomenologically describe laminar-turbulent transition

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of content through lectures and presentations with examples; lecture notes and formula collection provided
  • ÜbungenDerivation of exercise solutions, compact review of theoretical background, presentation of important formulas and solution tips
  • Tutorenübung (freiwillig)Independent practice of additional problems with supervision by tutors

Teaching method

  • Vortrag/Präsentationfor structured transmission of theory and illustration by examples
  • Übungsaufgaben mit Lösungsvorführungfor applying what has been learned and for preparing for exam-like tasks
  • Tutorielle Betreuungto support independent practice (voluntary)
