Digital Authoritarianism and Democracy

What it is about

You will learn central debates about how digitization affects democracy and autocracy. The module analyzes global trends such as the decline of democratization, increasing digital autocracy, and discusses concrete impacts on political dynamics as well as countermeasures — including effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What you will be able to do

In-depth knowledge of digitization and its political consequences
Comparison and assessment of positive and negative effects on democracy and autocracy
Placement of the findings in debates on global democratic erosion
Design of countermeasures against digital autocracy and strategies to leverage positive effects
