What it is about

You will learn sustainable perspectives on materials and resources, especially for inorganic/organic-hybrid systems such as coordination polymers and metal–organic frameworks. In the end you can classify current research areas (e.g., cooling materials, gas storage, sensors, electronic/photonics components, (photo-)electrocatalysts, battery materials) in the context of sustainability, material histories, and resource efficiency.

What you will be able to do

  • Overview of sustainability aspects of material classes
  • Understand criteria for the use of different materials
  • Assess material histories and resource efficiency of functional materials
  • Familiarize yourself with a topic area of material development
  • Present scientific results and lead/manage discussions

What the module consists of

  • Lecture with integrated discussion seminarIntroduction to content by instructors and active student work on research publications; preparation and delivery of presentations

Teaching method

  • Lecture with discussion seminarElaboration of sustainability and resource efficiency challenges and guidance for the analysis of research publications
  • Supervision by experienced instructorsAdvice on approaches to literature research, analysis and presentation
