Inertial Navigation

EI7342Examination Performance5 ECTSEnglishsummer semesterEhemalige Fakultät für Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik
AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You learn the fundamentals of inertial navigation: from torque and inertia to coordinate transformations (Euler angles, quaternions) and to sensors (gyroscopes, accelerometers). In the end you can couple inertial and satellite navigation, estimate sensor errors, and develop your own algorithms for integration and calibration and implement them in Matlab.

What you will be able to do

  • Analysis and evaluation of algorithms for inertial navigation
  • Development of your own coupling algorithms for inertial- and satellite navigation
  • Calibration and error estimation of inertial sensors
  • Determination of attitude with and without carrier-phase ambiguities
  • Fusion of measurements from inertial sensors, GNSS and magnetometers
  • Application of MAP estimation and neural networks for error learning

What the module consists of

  • LectureConveying the theoretical foundations and derivations
  • ExercisesRegular processing of lecture material and Matlab exercises

Teaching method

  • Blackboard workfor derivations and sketches
  • PowerPoint slidesSummary of the blackboard notes, available on Moodle
  • Matlab demonstrations and examplesIllustration and practice of the algorithms
  • Independent studyReview of the lecture script and slides
