AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

The module conveys methods and models of terrestrial radio navigation. You will learn physical principles of radio wave propagation, various measurement principles (range, time difference of arrival, angle, signatures), multilateration, and modern algorithms for position estimation and trajectory processing. In the end you will be able to evaluate navigation techniques and classify them in applications such as GSM/UMTS, RFID, WLAN or Bluetooth.

What you will be able to do

  • Master modelling techniques of terrestrial radio navigation
  • Apply solution methods for localization tasks
  • Knowledge of supporting navigation techniques
  • be familiar with current and planned systems as well as open research questions
  • Apply Bayesian estimation methods and Cramér–Rao bounds for localization

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungConveying concepts, derivations and demonstrations
  • ÜbungRegular follow-up of the lecture material and deepening
  • SelbststudiumStudy of lecture materials, literature and Matlab examples

Teaching method

  • TafelanschriftFollow derivations and sketches
  • Powerpoint-FolienSummaries and consolidation, available online
  • ÜbungsaufgabenApplication and deepening of what has been learned
  • Matlab-DemonstrationenIllustration of algorithms and examples
