What it is about
You will learn how mobile robots can be used with gas sensing, e.g. for measuring air pollutants, mapping gas distributions and localizing emission sources. In the end you will be able to read gas sensor data from mobile platforms, estimate gas distributions and locate sources as well as assess typical physical, circuit and algorithmic challenges.
What you will be able to do
- Recognize application areas of gas-sensing robots
- Understand challenges in sensing, physics, estimation and sensor planning
- Know various gas sensor principles
- Estimate gas distributions
- Localize gas sources
- Read out and process measurement data from mobile robots
What the module consists of
- VorlesungProvides basics on gas sensing, applications, physical models and algorithms; first weeks purely theoretical
- Übungen/Praktische EinheitenDeepen concepts in practical experiments and programming tasks with real hardware; take place every two weeks from the first weeks on an afternoon
Teaching method
- Vorlesung (Präsentation von Forschung und Feldbeispielen)Explains fundamental challenges and solutions as well as real-world applications
- Begleitende Übungen mit praktischen Experimenten und ProgrammierungConveys practical skills for deployment and evaluation of sensors as well as implementation of algorithms
