AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn the fundamentals and current research on distributed learning (centralized, federated, decentralized) with a focus on data privacy, robustness against malicious clients, and reduction of communication costs. In the end you will be able to analyze, implement yourself, and critically evaluate algorithms for privacy, robustness, and communication efficiency.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify challenges of modern distributed learning systems and address them with tools from coding theory and distributed learning
  • Understand federated and decentralized learning systems
  • Analyze and evaluate privacy guarantees of privacy-preserving distributed learning procedures
  • Assess robustness and performance of procedures against current malicious attacks
  • Design privacy-preserving and robust federated/decentralized learning procedures
  • Reduce communication costs of distributed learning procedures
  • Implement state-of-the-art algorithms from research papers and critically analyze your own observations
  • Present results in poster or paper form according to international conference standards
