What it is about

You learn how available hardware randomness is used for IT security tasks: first Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) — structure, effects used, quality assessment, applications, attacks and countermeasures — and then random number generators and their analysis. Practically you implement a PUF-based encryption and decryption as well as key storage and random number generation on an FPGA.

What you will be able to do

  • Understanding of the concept of Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs)
  • Knowledge of True Random Number Generators (TRNGs) and their analysis
  • Application of methods for evaluating PUFs and random numbers
  • Interpretation and critical appraisal of results for quality measurement
  • Knowledge of typical attack vectors on PUFs and appropriate countermeasures
  • Implementation of fundamental PUF applications on an FPGA

What the module consists of
