What it is about

You learn modern techniques of image synthesis from the programmable graphics pipeline through shader and multi-pass methods to local and global illumination models. In the end you will be able to classify different rendering methods, evaluate existing image synthesis tools, and create renderings for given models and scenes yourself.

What you will be able to do

  • Understanding of the programmable graphics pipeline and shader programming
  • Applying multi-pass techniques, shadowing methods and ambient occlusion
  • Use of hardware tessellation and displacement mapping
  • Understanding and evaluation of global illumination methods (ray tracing, radiosity, photon tracing)
  • Knowledge of image formats, HDRI, filtering and image processing
  • Applying compositing and after-effects techniques
  • Analysis and categorization of methods by quality and efficiency
  • Evaluation and use of common image synthesis tools
