AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will gain an overview of modern processor and system architectures with a focus on parallelism, memory hierarchies, availability, and virtualization. You will learn to become familiar with different classes of parallel architectures (instruction-, data-, thread-, and process-level), assess their advantages and disadvantages, and evaluate the interaction between hardware and compiler techniques. In the end you will be able to analyze and evaluate architecture decisions for different applications.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand the architecture of current processors and entire IT systems
  • Differentiate and evaluate different classes of parallel architectures
  • Explain the interaction between architecture and compiler technology
  • Assess the advantages and disadvantages of design alternatives

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of content on architecture principles and classes; introduction and in-depth examples

Teaching method

  • Vorlesung (4 Stunden)Presentation of topics, explanation of concepts and examples for deeper understanding
