Advanced Seminar Economics, Policy & Econometrics: Economics of Taxation

What it is about

You will learn central questions and models of public taxation: aims of taxes, distributional effects, behavioral responses of consumers and producers, and the perceived burden (Tax Incidence). The module provides institutional knowledge and theoretical analytical skills and applies them to current tax policy issues.

What you will be able to do

• Identify goals and guiding principles of taxation
• Recognize conflicts of tax objectives and develop compromises
• Understand the effects of tariffs on international trade
• Design and evaluate measures to combat tax evasion
• Critically reflect on economic models and derive policy recommendations
