What it is about

You deal with explainability for optimization and decision models in operations and supply chain management. In the end you will be able to formally describe different explainability methods for optimization, evaluate their assumptions and computational aspects, and present results in an understandable way.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain why explainability for data-driven decision support is needed
  • Differentiate explanations for predictions and for optimization decisions
  • Describe mathematical formulations for counterfactual explanations (weak/strong/relative)
  • Analyze a current research article on assumptions, model choice and solution methods
  • Compare explainability methods with respect to application area, computational effort and guarantees
  • Assess limitations of an explainability method for concrete decision problems
  • Write a scientific seminar paper with correct citation and reproducibility
  • Present and defend complex technical results before informed non-experts
